Service and repairs

Service 1 (Initial import service) :

Date : 08/11/2019 ODO : 70859 Miles

Overview: Oil Change + E85 Kit installation

Parts :

  • Shell Helix Ultra 5W30 A3/B4 + Bosch Oil Filter
  • EFlexfuel Kit

Comments : Step down in oil SAE grade (previously running cheap 10W40). Flexfuel conversion done (injectors piggyback + ethanol content sensor added on the rubber line before the fuel rail).

Service 2 :

Date : 08/21/2019 ODO : 71089 Miles

Overview : Timing belt/WP job + drive belts + Rear brake pads

Parts :

  • SKF timing belt kit and water pump (VKMA91715/VKPC91837)
  • Gates drive belts ALT/PS/AC (4PK898/3PK890/4PK1070)
  • TRW rear brake pads (GDB3233)

Comments : Timing belt was in good contition, as well as the water pump. Both were replace for peace of mind. The fabrication of a tool to lock the crank pulley was necessary to tighten the main bolt at the correct torque spec. After buying the car I also noticed a noise when turning to the left. When replacing the rear brake pads I noticed a contact point between the brake disc and the backing plate on the right side. After a bit of work with an angle grinder on the backing plate, it was adjusted and stopped making noise when cornering. All the drive belts were replaced (Alternator/PS pump/AC compressor). The coolant was also flushed.

Service 3 :

Date : 09/19/2019 ODO : 71950 Miles

Overview : Heater core replacement

Parts :

  • Motorads UK copper heater matrix

Comments : Replacement of the heater matrix due to a leak on the factory unit. Aluminum hard lines were detatched and cut to be able to install the new matrix without removing the dashboard.

Service 4 :

Date : 09/20/2019 ODO : 72000 Miles

Overview : Replacement of the 4 Tires

Parts :

  • Uniroyal Rainsport 3 215/45/17

Comments : Replacement of the 4 tires on the 11 spokes alloys.

Service 5/5.5 :

Date : 09/21/2019 ODO : 72080 Miles/72820 Miles

Overview : Transmission oil change (2 steps)

Parts :

  • OEM Toyota ATF T-IV Fluid (5L Jug)

Comments : Transmission fluid drain and refill (2L) realised in two steps to clean as much of the fluid as possible. In total, about 4.2L were drained and refilled. The level has been checked using the Toyota VCI cable and Techstream software to make sure the oil was at the correct temperature for an accurate reading of the level on the dipstick. Shifts between 1st and 2nd gear became noticably smoother after the 2nd drain/refill.

Service 6 :

Date : 01/31/2020 ODO : 76602 Miles

Overview : Engine and cabin air filter replacement + wiper blades replacement

Parts :

  • Mahle cabin air filter
  • Mahle engine air filter
  • Bosch wiper blades

Comments : Basic stuff

Service 7 :

Date : 02/12/2020 ODO : 77100 Miles

Overview : Valve cover gaskets + thermostat replacement

Parts :

  • OEM Toyota Valve cover gasket (1121370040)
  • OEM Toyota Spark plug holes gaskets (1119370010)
  • Gates thermostat (TH04382G1)

Comments : Replacement of all the gaskets on the valve cover to stop the leaks. Coolant has been flushed and the thermostat has been replaced to ensure the cooling system is working properly. Some “stop leak” sh*t has been found in the system, probably used to fix the leak on the heater matrix. The replacement of the thermostat is just cheap insurance. To remove as much of the “stop leak” as possible, a garden hose has been used to completely flush the engine and the radiator before filling it up with coolant.

Service 8 :

Date : 03/07/2020 ODO : 77320 Miles

Overview : Engine block front reseal + timing belt change

Parts :

  • OEM Toyota Oil pump shaft seal (15165-88382)
  • OEM Toyota Oil pump o-ring (15188-70060)
  • OEM Toyota Front main seal (crankshaft) (90311-45015)
  • Gates Timing belt

Comments : Replacement of the seals at the front of the engine block. After a few weeks of searching, I discovered the origin of a small oil leak in the timing belt area. Some debris of a previous timing belt were found around the oil pump shaft (behind the pulley) and the crankshaft. Those debris damaged the seals who then started to leak on the block and the timing belt. This one was very tricky since the oil splashed everywhere making the investigation very hard. After that discovery, I ordered all the seals at Toyota and started the cleaning process to make sure it won’t happen again. The timing belt has also been changed to avoid any risks related to the contamination.
